Cogent Communications Launches New Products in Europe and United States
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 2, 2004 - Cogent Communications Group, Inc. (AMEX: COI), a multinational Tier One, optical Internet service provider, announced today that it is launching several new products in Europe including a combination of IP transit (Internet connectivity), point-to-point, and colocation services. Cogent is also now offering Layer 2 transport services to customers in its largest U.S. markets. Furthermore, LambdaNet Communications France and LambdaNet Communications España, acquired by Cogent in the first quarter of 2004, will now operate under the name of Cogent Communications. Going forward, the Cogent Communications brand will be used for all European operations. Cogent has now created a state-of-the-art, integrated global network that spans over 33,000 kilometers (~21,000 miles) intercity and over 12,800 kilometers (~8,000 miles) intra-city.
Cogent Communications will immediately offer a focused range of transit and transport products to meet the growing needs of the European market. Among the European product set, Cogent will offer highly reliable On-Net and Off-Net Internet transit services at 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s interfaces (similar to services already offered in the United States); Bandwidth Link, a point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and meshed Layer-1 network product; Wavelength Link, a dedicated optical network point-to-point or ring configuration; and Data-Link point-to-point product.
Cogent is rolling out the Layer 2 Data Link product to some of its larger U.S. markets including Chicago, Dallas, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Data Link will enable customers to use Cogent's backbone to build their own transport network between any locations where Cogent offers these services.
"Cogent has made significant improvements to the networks we have acquired in Europe," said Dave Schaeffer, CEO of Cogent Communications. "Cogent now has the ability to provide European businesses with products that are competitively priced and under a unified brand name that stands for high reliability and unprecedented value on both sides of the Atlantic."
Cogent owns and operates over 25 colocation centers and has an additional presence in more than 25 carrier neutral data houses throughout Europe. At these colocation facilities, customers can install their equipment in Cogent racks and connect directly to Cogent's all-optical network backbone. Cogent currently has a presence in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, in addition to the United States and Canada.
