Job Summary:

The SQL & PHP Developer supports the development and maintenance of data-driven applications and business reporting solutions, with an initial focus on SQL query and stored procedure development. This role is responsible for creating, modifying, testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing SQL queries and stored procedures that support application functionality, reporting, dashboards, business analytics, and forecasting. Because the data produced through this work is used to support operational reporting, performance measurement, business analytics, and forecasting, accuracy, consistency, and an understanding of how data is used by the business are important aspects of the role. As technical skills and knowledge of the applications grow, the position will progressively expand into PHP development, providing a clear path from SQL-focused development to broader back-end application development.

Compensation:

[Starting / Initial] Base Salary Pay Range: $65,000-$75,000/yr.

Responsibilities:

  • Support applications, reporting, dashboards, analytics, and other business processes.
  • Analyze existing SQL queries and stored procedures to understand business logic, data relationships, dependencies, and expected results.
  • Create efficient queries that retrieve, transform, aggregate, and organize data according to application and business requirements.
  • Troubleshoot incorrect, incomplete, duplicate, or unexpected query results and identify issues within SQL logic, stored procedures, or application interactions.
  • Modify and enhance existing stored procedures as application functionality and business requirements change.
  • Test SQL changes to confirm data accuracy, expected functionality, and appropriate performance before implementation.
  • Review and optimize queries and stored procedures to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary processing.
  • Understand how data generated by queries and stored procedures is consumed by downstream applications, dashboards, reports, analytics, and forecasting processes.
  • Work with business and technical team members to understand reporting and analytical requirements and translate those requirements into appropriate SQL logic.
  • Recognize the business impact of data quality and ensure that SQL development produces accurate, consistent, and reliable results for operational and analytical use.
  • Support data used in dashboards that help business users monitor key performance indicators, identify trends, evaluate performance, and make informed operational and strategic decisions.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of data processes that support historical analysis, business forecasting, and other analytical activities.
  • Document stored procedures, complex queries, business rules, data logic, dependencies, and technical changes as appropriate.
  • Use source control and established development, testing, code review, and deployment practices.
  • Review existing PHP application code to understand how applications execute stored procedures, process returned data, and present information to users.
  • Progress from SQL-focused assignments into PHP development tasks as knowledge of the applications, business processes, and development environment grows.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and enhance PHP application functionality under the guidance of experienced developers.
  • Take on increasingly independent SQL and PHP development responsibilities as technical proficiency and system knowledge grow.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality, maintainability, performance, and development practices.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, bachelor's degree, technical certification, relevant coursework, or comparable hands-on experience in computer science, information technology, software development, data analytics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of SQL Server experience with the ability to develop queries using joins, subqueries, aggregate functions, grouping, conditional logic, and common data manipulation techniques.
  • 1+ years of PHP web development experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with the Laravel Framework
  • Understanding of relational database concepts, including tables, views, relationships, primary and foreign keys, data types, and normalization concepts.
  • Familiarity with developing and modifying stored procedures using parameters, variables, conditional logic, temporary data structures, and result sets.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and modify existing queries and stored procedures while maintaining data accuracy and considering query performance and downstream dependencies.
  • Understanding of how data is used in business reporting, dashboards, key performance indicators, analytics, and forecasting, with an appreciation for the importance of accurate and consistent results.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to translate business or technical requirements into logical development tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical team members, learn existing application and business logic, and progress from SQL development into PHP and back-end application development.
  • Proficiency with HTML/CSS/Javascript.
  • Experience in all phases of SDLC, OO analysis and design, and revision control systems.
  • Ability to converse with end-users, gather requirements, and provide feedback in plain non-technical English.
  • Ability to structure a software project (UI / API / DB)
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation.
